MODURA
MODURA is a hypothetical project that I created during my Designlab Foundations course.
MODURA is a new eCommerce clothing brand designed for trendy men and women between 18 and 25 years old. These individuals are early in their careers and are looking for sophisticated, everyday wear in urban areas. They are fashion-forward, and conscious of trends. They want to dress for the lives they live while being comfortable.
Dive into UI
Logo
For my logo design, I began by tackling the dashed logo. First, I used the pen tool to create the dashes. For any letters that were mirrored, I duplicated the half of the letter and then flipped it to complete each letter. I also made the stroke bigger so that the dashes were more visible and gave it a more sophisticated look.
Icons
For the icons, I began by looking up some ideas of different icons on Noun Project and then reviewed that against my font design. I then started out with the hanger design first and then duplicated the simple designs. I did this to then recreate the dashed line design for the other icons.
Font
I started by reviewing different text in Google Fonts. I wanted to select a font that reminded me of the MODURA logo and represented a relaxed and approachable look.
Colors
I began by using color generators and double-checking how the colors would test for accessibility. Afterwards, I decided to use images to tie in the looks and colors for the interface. I also layered text to see what text color would be best to use with the background color.
Takeaways
In the end, MODURA’s look and feel felt like it reflected the urbane feel because I took inspiration from website’s that reflected a sophisticated and sexy style. This made it easy to create a brand design and user interface that embodied these adjectives and represented the target user.
It was a great exercise to practice understanding how design can complement a company’s brand in executing its identity. Nowadays, this is important because consumers want to see themselves reflected in not only the products they purchase, but also the companies they support.
